Creative and Innovative Teaching and Learning

The Kind of Learners We Teach Today

Technology has made the word to radically change without notice. It is technology that has been driving much of the changes that we observe today. Many of us by the time when we were school children; the sources of information for us were encyclopedia and libraries. Today the internet is the major source of information for the children we teach. With internet and the other technologies many questions can be answered in just a matter of seconds with simple clicks. Learners today have visited Google search engine much more often than the library. Hence it is certainly true that more changes are yet to come. Therefore the educational system in place must keep up with the ever changing world.

 Preparing Learners for Digital Society

I will first consider what I need to teach and bets approach possible to organize it into a learning experience to be shared. Like for us:
1.    The teacher should among others use the strategy of teaching around the wheel which involves multiple modalities throughout the digital lesson in an effort to present content using the students' preferred approach.
2.    Use the learning styles of visual-auditory-kinestetic which involves using multiple intelligence data to help teach around the wheel. This method makes learning easy and accessible.

For the Schools:
The learning process is now perceived nowadays as an ecological system that cuts beyond the school i.e. it encompasses the whole environment of the student (mention: school, family, society, networks, etc. hence the school should be able to perform the following to succumb to this definition of the learning process.
1.    Creating Institutional leadership by taking responsibility of leading the change of digital technology
2.    The schools should introduce new ways of evaluation and assessment of learners since instructions with ICT use different approaches and may not need to be evaluated using the traditional methods.
3.    Promote equality in digital technology by dispelling the myth of the digital native. There should be no room created by the school for differences in children born in digital homes or not.

Innovatives in Achieving Digital Goals

A major goal of digital education is for the learners to become fluent users. Another major goal is for them to internalize digital knowledge and skills. Therefore my essential elements for achieving these include:
1.    Finding Out What Children Know: a sense of when and where to use the skills.
2.    Instructional Planning to Support Progress in Learning.
3.    Providing the necessary skills so that they can use skills effortlessly and accurately.

Ciao!
