Student Engagement through Role Playing

Do what you love and love what you do. When learners enjoy what they do, the teaching/learning process feels meaningful and they retain the information better, and the experience motivates them to learn even more. In case where learners simulate scenarios by assuming specific roles in the class room for the real world, we refer to such practices as role playing. In setting out role play;
The basic steps involve:
  • Setting objectives
  • Establishing constraints
  • Identifying critical factors
  • how to structure the activity
Preparation also involves:
  • Selecting materials for students to read
  • Running the role-play
  • De-briefing
  • Follow-up

Incorporating Role Play in the Class Room

I will do this by:
1.    assigning a class activity that involves a few of the learners, with the rest offering feedback.
2.    having learners practice a demonstration using role-play.
3.    assigning a role-play activity for which the students must prepare in advance until the day of the activity.

In the process of enhancing learner engagement through role playing, it is capable of changing the attitudes of learners and also enables them experience things differently and think creatively.

Ciao!
